Store MCP is on the Shopify App Store. Install it on your store, choose which AI tools may use it and what they may do, then ask about orders, products and stock in plain language.
Orders cover the last 60 days, and buyer name, email, phone and shipping address are not returned: Store MCP neither requests nor returns those fields without Shopify’s protected customer data approval.

Writes need a paid plan, permission and provider support. Actual grants may be narrower.
Orders and fulfillment
Read order status, remaining fulfillable quantities and shipments. Supported Shopify fulfillment tasks include partial quantities and tracking updates. Order history and buyer details depend on the access Shopify grants.
Products and inventory
Create drafts, update supported product and variant fields, attach images by URL and publish to the Online Store. Check stock by variant and location; set a quantity or apply an adjustment.
Alerts and protected actions
Configured Shopify events cover created, paid, canceled, shipped and delivered orders. Set destinations in Store MCP. Supported cancellations and store disconnection require owner approval in the browser. Refund execution is unavailable.

- Install Store MCP from its Shopify App Store listing, or open it from Apps in Shopify admin if it is already installed.
- Review permissions in Shopify and sign in to Store MCP with your own email. Store MCP connects the shop only to your workspace; you never enter a shop domain.
- Open Connect AI, follow the guide for your AI tool and authorize only the stores it should use.
- Ask your AI to list your stores, then inspect an order before enabling supported changes on Starter or higher.

View only to start
Authorize each AI client for selected stores. Enable supported listing and stock changes deliberately; ordinary writes do not each require separate browser approval.
Approval for sensitive actions
Bulk listing changesets, supported cancellations and store disconnection require owner approval in the browser. Ordinary supported writes use the permissions you granted. Refund execution is not supported; complete refunds directly in the commerce platform.
Provider credentials stay out of chat
Saved provider tokens are encrypted with AES-GCM and are not handed to AI clients. Authorize on the provider’s website, never by pasting credentials into a prompt.
No synced orders or customer database
Store MCP does not maintain a synced orders or customer database. Buyer details need separate sensitive permission, an explicit request and provider access.
Review recorded tool activity
Activity shows Store MCP actions and the acting client within your plan’s retention period. Review the outcome before retrying a change whose result is unknown.

Does this replace Shopify?
No. Shopify remains your storefront and store administration system. Store MCP gives authorized AI tools a way to use supported seller operations.
Can I start without allowing changes?
Yes. Choose View only when authorizing your AI. The Free plan is also read-only for marketplace operations.
Is this Shopify’s official Storefront MCP?
No. Store MCP is an independent merchant-operations service. Shopify’s Storefront MCP helps customers shop; the comparison below explains the different roles.
