Turn a question in ChatGPT into a useful store check. Connect Store MCP, choose the stores ChatGPT may access and start by asking what needs your attention.
Connect Store MCP to ChatGPT
- Connect at least one available store in Store MCP first.
- On ChatGPT web, open Settings → Security and login → Developer mode and enable it if your plan and organization allow it.
- Open ChatGPT Plugins and use the plus button to create a developer-mode app. Enter Store MCP as the name and https://store-mcp.com/mcp as the remote server URL. Choose OAuth authentication.
- Complete the connection’s registration and browser authorization flow. Store MCP supports automatic client registration; if ChatGPT offers a CIMD choice, the server supports that route. Choose the intended stores and View only access on the Store MCP consent screen.
- In a conversation, use the plus menu to select Developer mode and the app you created. Ask ChatGPT to list your stores and check the tool response.

You need an available connected store, an eligible ChatGPT account and permission to add a remote MCP connection. Start with View only access to one selected store.
You’re done when…
stores.list returns only your authorized stores. A known listing matches its title and SKU in the provider dashboard. Connect AI shows the grant and Activity records the read.
If the first read fails
Do not enable write access to fix a failed read. Check the account, provider connection and selected store scope. A saved URL is not sufficient verification. Troubleshoot the connection.
A new live Store MCP authentication test in this client has not been performed. Published setup references do not imply directory approval.

Questions before you connect?
Do I need a published ChatGPT directory listing?
This guide uses ChatGPT’s custom developer-mode app flow, not an assumed Store MCP directory listing. Creating a private connection does not mean OpenAI has reviewed or endorsed Store MCP.
What if Developer mode is missing?
Use ChatGPT on the web and check your account’s eligibility and organization permissions. The official guide currently lists Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education. A workspace administrator may need to enable access.
What should I check after connecting?
Ask the AI to list your stores, confirm their names and read one known listing or order. A saved URL is not proof of a working connection. Connect AI and Activity in Store MCP show grants and recorded tool use.
Why can it read a store but not make a change?
The Free plan is read-only for marketplace operations. Changes also need write permission, access to that store and a supported provider operation. Approval alone does not grant missing permissions.
