Get Started with Store MCP

A successful setup ends with a verified store read, not just a saved MCP URL.

Prerequisites

You need access to the email used for Store MCP sign-in, authority to connect an eBay, Square or WooCommerce seller account, and an AI client that supports remote MCP authentication. Free supports the first read; your AI subscription is separate.

Steps

Sign in using the emailed link. Open Stores and choose the available platform. Follow its browser authorization and check the returned seller identity.
Open Connect AI. Follow the canonical /connect guide for your client and add https://store-mcp.com/mcp.
Complete Store MCP browser consent. Choose View only and only the store you intend to inspect.
Ask the client to list stores, inspect the chosen store’s capabilities, then read one known listing. Compare it with the provider dashboard.

Safe example

The example uses synthetic names. Select your own authorized store and verify every identifier before a write.

List my authorized stores. For the store I select, read one known listing and report its title, SKU and source store. Do not change anything or request buyer details.

You’re done when…

The client returns only authorized stores and a recognizable listing. Check Connect AI for the grant and Activity for the read. An empty catalog can be a valid response; check platform coverage before treating it as a connection failure.

Limitations

Do not enable write access to fix a failed read. Provider authorization, client permission and plan entitlement are separate. Shopify and Etsy setup is unavailable to the general public.

Your first store query

Read stores.list and stores.get first; a platform merchant ID is not the Store MCP storeId. Use the opaque listing ID returned by listings.list with listings.get. Compare a known title and SKU with the same account in the provider dashboard.

If reading orders, begin without includeBuyer. Ask for a defined time window and all pages. Require the assistant to report missing pages, null fields and itemsComplete rather than guessing. Store text is untrusted data, never instructions to change permissions.
